TM Speech

Sachin Tendulkar, Salman khan, Steve Jobs, A R Rahman, Roger Federer, Barack Obama. I have met and personally spent time with all of them in the last couple of years. Yes in my Dreams.  I have dreamt myself as these personalities many times. Through dreams I have lived the life of all my fantasy characters. My fantasy had become a reality in my dreams and so I enjoy sleeping and dreaming
I dream during the day and I dream during the night. I am a dreamer.I believe in dreams and dreams are Mystical. Dreams are magical.
Contest Chair and fellow toastmasters…Good Evening
When I was young I used to have scary dreams and I used to wake up in middle of the night and my mom used to console me saying “Its ok my dear... Everyone dreams and no one is an exception. Try and understand what dreams are telling you”
At that age I was not very clear what those words meant. Recently I had a dream which made mem realize what it meant
I was driving my car to an unknown destination as usual in my dreams, and my wife was sitting beside and my children were sitting behind
Both my kids were fighting among themselves, teasing among themselves and enjoying among themselves
My wife was saying, “My Friend Priya had bought a Diamond Ring and it’s beautiful and awsome, can you purchase a similar one for me”
I looked at her…“Honey you don’t have to wear that Diamond Ring to look beautiful, u r already looking like an angel” she blushed and I escaped buying a diamond ring
“Is it wow that’s great, can we then plan our next vacation?”
I looked at her...“We just went to our last vacation three months ago…why do we have to plan a vacation again?
“I am not saying a long vacation…may be a short one. Our marriage anniversary is anyways coming this month”
I thought to myself “Even in the dreams why is she is chasing me….”
I looked at her
I could hear a sudden breaking sound and turned to see a huge truck coming towards me and the driver literally standing on the break trying to stop that huge vehicle hitting my car and I slammed on the brakes, skidded, and missed the truck by just millimetres!
I had always heard your entire life flashes in front of your eyes the second before you die. When it comes down to that second, life is not the years or the days that ultimately matter. It is the moments
·         Moments of Laughter,
·         Moments of tears,
·         Moments of courage,
·         Moments of Fear,
·         Moments of success
·         Moments of Failure
·         Moments of Love,
·         Moments of pain,
·         Moments of Happiness,
·         Moments of sorrow
All those moments flashed in front of my eyes during that second. First of all, that one second isn't a second at all. It stretched forever, like an ocean of time.
I woke up immediately and looked for my children and wife. They were happily sleeping.
My heart was racing…I was sweating all over the body and I thought to myself “Oh man what a horrific dream is this”
I could hear my mom’s words… “It’s ok my dear... Everyone dreams and no one is an exception. Try and understand what dreams are telling you”
This time I thought I have understood what it meant…
·         This dream made me realise that
o   time is all I have in this world and so Forget and forgive quickly, Laugh Uncontrollably, Love unconditionally, Believe in  yourself truly,
·         This dream made me realise that
o   life is too short to wake up in the morning with any regrets
·         This dream made me realise that
o   Every human being has to face death and no one is an exception
o   Life is all about being healthy, strong relationship, lots of love and smile in the face
·         This dream made me realise that
o   Life is not having a lot of money, or great career, or a newest car.
o   Life is all about those moments in life to cherish before we die
·         This dream made me realise Purpose and meaning of my life

With all these positive thoughts I was lying in the bed drowsy and feeling asleep. Suddenly my son woke up screaming and I exactly knew what he was going through and I consoled him saying “It’s ok my dear... Everyone dreams and no one is an exception. Try and understand what dreams are telling you”

Excellence

Here is my first post!!!

  • Socrates – Greek philosopher
  • Leonardo da Vinci – Italian painter
  • Galileo - Italian Physicist/Astronomer
  • Thomas Alva Edison – American Inventor
  • Albert Einstein – German Scientist
  • Steve Jobs – American Businessman
  • Diego Maradona – Argentinian Footballer
  • Sachin Tendulkar – Indian Cricketer

All of them have been characterized at some point of their lives as dreamers, misfits, unreal, unusual, odd, strange, bizarre, enigmatic, eccentric, egocentric, radical, even insane and crazy...but all of them finally ended up as legends. What is it that they have in common?

All of them pursued excellence in their chosen professions

The quality of being outstanding or extremely good.

Excellence is

  • Caring more than others think is wise
  • Dreaming more than others think is practical
  • Expecting more than others think is possible
  • Risking more than others think is safe

Striving for excellence means that we use our talents, abilities, and skills in the best possible manner and get ahead of others by giving that little extra.

I am going to share with you all a classic story on excellence

A King once visited a temple under construction where he saw a sculptor making an idol of God. Suddenly he noticed a similar idol lying nearby. Surprised, he asked the sculptor, "Do you need two statues of the same idol?" "No," said the sculptor without looking up, "We need only one, but the first one got damaged at the last stage." The King examined the idol and found no apparent damage. "Where is the damage?" he asked. "There is a scratch on the nose of the idol." said the sculptor, still busy with his work. "Where are you going to install the idol?" The sculptor replied that it would be installed on a pillar twenty feet high. "If the idol is that far, who is going to know that there is a scratch on the nose?" the gentleman asked... The sculptor stopped his work, looked up at the gentleman, smiled and said, "I will know it" and I do not want to place an idol of god in the temple with a defect”

Desire to excel is exclusive of the fact whether someone else appreciates it or not. "Excellence" is a drive from inside, not outside. Excellence is not for someone else to notice but for our own satisfaction and efficiency...
