Excellence

Here is my first post!!!

  • Socrates – Greek philosopher
  • Leonardo da Vinci – Italian painter
  • Galileo - Italian Physicist/Astronomer
  • Thomas Alva Edison – American Inventor
  • Albert Einstein – German Scientist
  • Steve Jobs – American Businessman
  • Diego Maradona – Argentinian Footballer
  • Sachin Tendulkar – Indian Cricketer

All of them have been characterized at some point of their lives as dreamers, misfits, unreal, unusual, odd, strange, bizarre, enigmatic, eccentric, egocentric, radical, even insane and crazy...but all of them finally ended up as legends. What is it that they have in common?

All of them pursued excellence in their chosen professions

The quality of being outstanding or extremely good.

Excellence is

  • Caring more than others think is wise
  • Dreaming more than others think is practical
  • Expecting more than others think is possible
  • Risking more than others think is safe

Striving for excellence means that we use our talents, abilities, and skills in the best possible manner and get ahead of others by giving that little extra.

I am going to share with you all a classic story on excellence

A King once visited a temple under construction where he saw a sculptor making an idol of God. Suddenly he noticed a similar idol lying nearby. Surprised, he asked the sculptor, "Do you need two statues of the same idol?" "No," said the sculptor without looking up, "We need only one, but the first one got damaged at the last stage." The King examined the idol and found no apparent damage. "Where is the damage?" he asked. "There is a scratch on the nose of the idol." said the sculptor, still busy with his work. "Where are you going to install the idol?" The sculptor replied that it would be installed on a pillar twenty feet high. "If the idol is that far, who is going to know that there is a scratch on the nose?" the gentleman asked... The sculptor stopped his work, looked up at the gentleman, smiled and said, "I will know it" and I do not want to place an idol of god in the temple with a defect”

Desire to excel is exclusive of the fact whether someone else appreciates it or not. "Excellence" is a drive from inside, not outside. Excellence is not for someone else to notice but for our own satisfaction and efficiency...
